Advice regarding using TM01 monitor with other systems

Post by ktown »

Hi all,

I’ve recently acquired a TM-01 monitor. Unfortunately I don’t have a Tatung system to use it with but was hoping to use it with one of my PCs. I see that it takes both rgb and yuv input through 6pin din. I’ve seen the manual also kindly posted on here which illustrates the pin out. Just wondering if anyone’s been successful in using the monitor with a PC and advice regarding creating a custom cable with VGA or BNC. I’m guessing VGA will require some form of sync combiner as the input states c-sync. Any thoughts or advice much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,
I don't have a TM01 monitor but my understanding is that is a fixed frequency monitor. The Einstein outputs RGB plus sync signals using the standard PAL frequencies of 50Hz vertical sync and 15.625kHz horizontal sync. It is unlikely your PC can output video at these frequencies as they are not the standard VGA frequencies.

Several vintage computers such as the BBC micro work on the same video frequencies as the Einstein, but the RGB signals are TTL levels (roughly 0V to 4V) whilst the Einstein outputs RGB at 1V peak-to-peak (roughly 0V to 1V) so you may need to attenuate the RGB outputs with resistors.

HTH,
John

Hi John thanks for replying. I did manage to make it work in the end! I couldn’t create the cable that was required using the schematics on this website but a third party online website manage to make and sell me one! I downscaled the signal from my PC using a Barco image pro scaler which connected to the monitor using bnc connectors. Works very well and very bright!
